Sotheby’s and K11 Group – the two leading cultural pioneers – join forces once again this June to present the auction preview of JAY CHOU X SOTHEBY’S. The one-of-a-kind collaboration, facilitated by Enviseam, marks the inaugural edition of Sotheby’s celebrated Contemporary Curated auction series in Asia with the legendary musical icon and avid art collector Jay Chou as the esteemed curator. (See separate release about the auction)

From 11 – 18 June, art collectors, lovers of music and culture, are cordially invited to K11 MUSEA and K11 ATELIER to experience the singular artistic and curatorial vision of Jay Chou. Under Jay’s special direction, the minimalistic space will be transformed into an immersive environment, offering visitors an unconventional experience uniting fine art, culture, and entertainment.

In this collaboration, I have directed a set design for the auction preview to bring people back to the times when these works were created. Audiences will not just be looking at the paintings, but experiencing the paintings as being part of their space and time. I wish to share the powerful feelings and deep connections art has brought to me, and I hope this collaboration will leave everyone with different ways of understanding and appreciating the art that surrounds us every day.

As the art journey begins at K11 MUSEA, visitors will be greeted by an antique ornate piano featured in the movie "Secret" (2007) starring Jay Chou that was also his directorial debut; as well as three sets of bespoke concert costumes worn by Jay Chou during his seventh, “The Invincible”, world tour, with proceeds to charity. The journey continues with the auction preview at K11 ATELIER, where more than 50 artworks from the Evening Sale and Online Day Sale will be on display. Notable highlights include Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Untitled from 1985, an iconic work that was featured on the cover of The New York Times Magazine in 1985; as well as Pablo Picasso’s Buste d’Homme, a powerful portrait that encapsulates the key themes of the artist’s late work – a tribute to Van Gogh with the figure of his alter-ego – the musketeer.

We are very enthusiastic about holding the auction preview of our inaugural Contemporary Curated auction in Asia with Jay Chou at K11. Thanks to Enviseam’s unique concept and K11’s support, this innovative fine art x entertainment collaboration was made possible. Art is for everyone, and as we continue on our journey to democratize culture and bring fine arts to a wider audience, we couldn’t have thought of better partners for this truly exciting project.
Nathan Drahi, Managing Director, Sotheby’s Asia
We are excited to present this preview ‘Contemporary Curated: Asia’ across our art and cultural destination of K11. It is a unique experience that unites entertainment and fine art, presented by cultural leaders from different fields. My mission is to continue to provide unique art and cultural experience for communities throughout the world that spark creativity and inspiration, the collaboration with Jay and Sotheby’s is a wonderful example of that.
Adrian Cheng, Founder of K11

One of the highlights at the preview will be a series of panel discussion and events, which explores the intersection between contemporary art and pop culture and promotes dialogues on art appreciation. Check out the latest programme on www.sothebys.com/jaychou.
