Four millennia of Jewish art and culture
The Jewish Museum is located on New York’s Museum Mile and is dedicated to illuminating the complexity and vibrancy of Jewish culture for a global audience. Founded in 1904, it is the first institution of its kind in the United States and is one of the oldest Jewish museums in the world. The collection chronicles 4,000 years of Jewish cultural history through nearly 30,000 works of art, ceremonial objects and media from around the world. In the 1960s the museum mounted influential exhibitions of avant-garde American art, including shows on Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns and Minimalism. It continues to collect and exhibit cutting-edge contemporary art with a focus on Jewish identity.
