Speed Art Museum

The Speed Art Museum is Kentucky’s oldest and largest art museum, founded in Louisville in 1925 by the pianist and philanthropist Hattie Bishop Speed as a memorial to her husband, James Breckinridge Speed. The museum’s collection today spans ancient, classical, modern and contemporary art from across the globe, with works by Rembrandt, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Alice Neel, and recent acquisitions by Jeffrey Gibson and Amy Sherald. Following a $50 million expansion and renovation from 2012 to 2016, the Speed is planning to open a new public sculpture park in late 2025.
