Dynamic beacon for art from the Arab world

Sharjah Art Museum was established in 1995 under Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi. It relocated in 1997 to its current three-story building designed by British architect Brian Johnson, who combined Arabic and Islamic themes with modern architecture as part of the third Sharjah International Arts Biennial. The museum is home to a diverse permanent collection of more than 500 artworks of modern and contemporary art from the United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries, including Abdul Qader Al Rais, Louay Kayali, Bashir Sinwar, Faiq Hassan, Mohammad Yusuf and Ismail Fatah Al-Turk. Each year, the museum presents an ambitious temporary exhibition program and also hosts world-class traveling shows from international institutions. It also offers events and workshops that engage the community as part of its larger mission to make art accessible to all.
