Centuries of Scottish military history
The National War Museum is a part of the National Museums Scotland network. Within the walls of Edinburgh Castle, the National War Museum tells the story of Scotland’s military history, with a variety of objects ranging from ancient weapons and armor to modern military equipment. There is also an extensive array of military uniforms from different eras and an impressive display of medals. Artists such as Sir David Wilkie and John Singleton Copley are represented with paintings depicting scenes of military life. The museum places a particular emphasis on the intimate experience of Scottish soldiers through letters, diaries and personal effects.
