Agriculture’s history explored on a working farm

Discover how 300 years of farming and rural home life have shaped and altered Scotland’s countryside in this large, purpose-built museum in South Lanarkshire. On display are combine harvesters, tractors, threshers and many other inventions designed to make farming life more efficient and profitable, and which have increasingly replaced people in farming. The museum, which opened in 2001, is situated in Wester Kittochside, a 170-acre working farm. It lies just 8 miles south of Glasgow, making it easily accessible from the city. The museum’s location on the farm allows for a rare opportunity to see traditional agricultural methods in action alongside contemporary farming practices.
