Impressionist radiance in a palatial setting
Located on the banks of the Havel in Potsdam, the Barberini Palace has been used as a venue to stage art exhibits and cultural events since the mid-19th century. In 2005, the city resolved to reconstruct what was formerly one of Europe’s most beautiful squares surrounding the City Palace, including The Barberini Palace. In 2017, Hasso Plattner founded the museum based on works from his collection. The institution has developed into one of the foremost institutions for impressionism in Germany, featuring work by Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Gustave Caillebotte and Paul Signac. This collection is complemented by a strong exhibitions program that presents three temporary exhibitions each year, ranging from Old Masters to contemporary art, with major loans from international private collections and museums. The exhibitions are paired with academic conferences from international curators and researchers.
