The exhibition “Jackson Pollock: The Early Years (1934-1947)” offers a rare glimpse into the formative period of one of America’s most influential artists. Featuring around 100 works from global institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern, London, the show reveals Pollock’s exploration of mediums from painting to sculpture.

The show follows the artist’s experimental years in New York, during which he blended influences from American regionalism and Mexican muralism with developments from the European avant-garde, including — to a significant extent — Picasso. The exhibition challenges the idea of Pollock as an isolated genius, highlighting instead the eclectic mix of interests that shaped his early work and led to his revolutionary “drip paintings.” This deep dive into Pollock’s early career offers a new perspective on his path to becoming a titan of modern art in America and beyond.
