“Louvre Couture" at the Louvre

24 January–21 July 2025

This imaginative display explores the links between couture and the decorative arts

Tickets are available on request and can be collected at the Sotheby’s Paris reception desk.

The Musée du Louvre’s first-ever fashion exhibition, “Louvre Couture. Art and Fashion: Statement Pieces,” unites art history and haute couture in a monumental showcase of contemporary style and decorative arts. Designs and accessories from 45 fashion houses—including Cristóbal Balenciaga, Jean Paul Gaultier, Thom Browne and Iris van Herpen—explore connections and resonances with the Louvre’s collection of masterpieces. This sumptuous array of objects and decorative styles ranges from Byzantium to Second-Empire France and features precious Medieval miniatures in gold and ivory, Renaissance-era tapestries, opulent 18th-century period rooms and a storied collection of armor. Museums, and especially the Louvre, have long served as inspiration for artists and creatives, notably the late Karl Lagerfeld, and the displays engage a shared creative language based on knowledge of ancestral techniques, visual culture and the interplay of references.
