Dedicated to the late dowager Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire (1920–2014), fashion label Erdem’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection is a tribute to British ingenuity, craft and a “make do and mend” ethos. The exhibition “Imaginary Conversations,” hosted in the guest bedrooms at Chatsworth, celebrates a unique collaboration between the atelier and Chatsworth House Trust, revealing how the history and archives of the home informed the creative process for the fashion collection.
“There is a long-standing tradition in the Devonshire family of championing the arts and culture, and this has evolved into Chatsworth’s modern identity as a centre of cultural reinvention—a place to explore the past with the freedom to refresh and renew,” says Harry Dalmeny, Sotheby’s senior director and UK chairman. “By delving into Chatsworth’s textile archives and giving life to pieces that have not been seen in years, Erdem has given us all a thrilling look at some of the most intimate spaces of one of Britain’s great places and artistic patrons.”
As part of the Sotheby’s Talks series, listen to British fashion journalist Charlie Porter in conversation with Erdem Moralıoğlu, creative director of Erdem, and Lady Burlington, discussing the creative process behind the work—and the exhibition.
