About the Museum
Founded in 1963 , the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) is an internationally recognized platform for cultural experiences that transform individuals, engage communities, and advance the discourse on art and film. The museum aims to inspire the imagination and ignite critical dialogue through art and film using its collection of over 19,000 artworks spanning 3000 BCE to the present day and over 17,500 films and videos. Noteable holdings include Ming and Qing Dynasty Chinese paintings, Old Master works on paper, Abstract Expressionist paintings, contemporary photography and conceptual art in addition to the largest collection of Japanese cinema outside of Japan and seminal films, video art and documents and ephemera related to the history of film.
