This collection of significant 18th-century works of art, assembled by a meticulous connoisseur with an eye for quality, design and rarity, encompasses superb examples from the greatest periods of French decorative art. Highlights include a unique pair of Louis XVI ormolu mounted white and blue turquin marble jardinières, a magnificent Louis XIV ormolu mounted premiere-partie boulle marquetry oval commode en tambour, by Andre-Charles Boulle, an impressive Louis XIV carved porphyry vase with cover and an important Louis XV Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain rhinoceros musical table clock.

The Royal Legacy of "Les Jardinières"

Created in the 18th Century, this pair of marble and bronze gilt Jardinières were designed to hold orange trees in the palatial courtyards of the European monarchy. A Gilt-Bronze Mounted, Tulipwood, Kingwood and Sycamore Parquetry Secrétaire Filing Cabinet, Louis XV, Attributed to Jean-François Oeben, circa 1760
This secrétaire shows a very strong visual effect with the geometrical "cube" parquetry framed by the Greek motifs which are also repeated in gilt bronze. It can be attributed to Jean-François Oeben, one of the most famous Louis XV cabinet makers who supplied many pieces for the King’s favorite Madame de Pompadour. The current piece illustrates the "goût grec" and the revival of the Antique after the rococo period.

This spectacular giltwood armchair illustrates the perpetual creativity of craftsmen in the 18th century. It is a very fine Louis XVI model with intricate, deep and crisp carving with unusual Egyptian sphinxes. Bauve, the menuisier is known for his originality in designs and shapes. This armchair was part of the distinguished Hubert de Givenchy collection in Paris and shows that elegance is immortal.
