Mythical Wines: Rarities from the World’s Greatest Vineyards

S otheby’s Wine is delighted to kick off the summer season with a remarkable online-only offering, Mythical Wines: Rarities from the World’s Greatest Vineyards, a sale replete with unicorn wines, rarely seen, if ever, at auction. An assortment of stunning white Burgundy leads the sale, punctuated by 17 lots of Arnaud Ente spanning 1999 - 2013 and appearing in bottle and magnum. Coche-Dury, Boisson-Vadot and Roulot follow before giving way to the sensational Keller G-Max and Abts Er.

Rarities from the Northern and Southern Rhône follow with Gentaz-Dervieux and Noël Verset represented in legendary vintages 1990 and 1991 and Château Rayas in modern vintages 2006, 2007 and 2009.

The sale then turns its focus to Piemonte, starting the ultrarare Crichët Pajé from Roagna in bottle and magnum spanning vintages 1996 - 2004. Twenty consecutive lots of Bruno Giacosa ensue, spanning four decades and seven vineyards. Bartolo Mascarello follows, featuring ten lots devoted exclusively to magnums and four lots devoted to the famed Artist Series. Accomasso, Burlotto and Cappellano close out the section before the sale turns its focus to red Burgundy.

Led by Domaine Leroy Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-St-George in the acclaimed 2004 vintage, the sale is quickly followed by names such as Rouget, Roumier and Mugnier before giving way to 39 consecutive lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, featured in mythical vintages 1962 and 1990 as well as modern classics 2009, 2010 and 2015.
