T aking place on 14 November 2022, the Modern Evening Auction will feature the best examples from Impressionist and early Modern era artists alongside titans of Abstract Expressionism, highlighting the historic throughlines and cross-continental dialogues between artists in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Beginning with artists like Monet, Degas and Pissarro, whose atmospheric depictions of their time broke from the strictures of the French academic system, to the daring Symbolist, Fauve and Cubist investigations of form by Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso and Derain, and the paragons of total abstraction by Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko, and Elaine de Kooning, the artists represented in our November sale defied convention and redefined the very notion of artistic creation.
