T his Spring’s live Master Paintings auction features a variety of works by Western European artists that span centuries of diverse subject matter and price points. We are thrilled to present an exciting group from the collection of Paul Yeou Chichong that includes four prime examples of Dutch and Flemish landscapes and still lifes, including a winter landscape by Pieter Brueghel the Younger, a monochrome banquet still life by Willem Claesz. Heda, a floral still life by Johannes Bosschaert, and a Flemish kermesse scene. The sale’s exciting Italian section features two works from the collection of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, including an elegant tondo by Lorenzo di Credi and Workshop and an exquisite gold ground by Giovanni di Francesco Toscani. We are also pleased to offer a selection of Italian baroque paintings from the collection of the late American realist painter Nelson Shanks. Other highlights include a pair of landscapes with ruins by Hubert Robert, a beautiful Madonna and Child by Simon Vouet, and a group of 4 beautiful paintings from a distinguished North American collection, including works by Émile-Jean-Horace Vernet, Eglon Hendrik van der Neer, and Pieter Faes. Our sale concludes with a select group of excellent 19th century paintings, including works by William Bouguereau, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, and José Agustin Arrieta.
