S otheby’s is proud to partner with Every Mother Counts (EMC), the nonprofit maternal health organization, by hosting their annual LoveEMC Auction, celebrating their 10-Year Anniversary. Online bidding is open from December 1-7, with more than 40 fabulous lots including fashion, travel, photography, jewelry, home décor and virtual experiences. This year’s auction will help raise critical funding to support EMC’s work to help make pregnancy and childbirth safe, respectful and equitable for every mother, everywhere.
EMC was founded by author and advocate, Christy Turlington Burns in 2010 following the completion of her first documentary film, No Woman, No Cry, focuses on maternal health issues in Guatemala, India and Tanzania. Christy’s interest in the subject matter was personal – in 2003, she had endured a pregnancy related complication after giving birth to her daughter, Grace, and was shocked to learn that literally hundreds of thousands of women and girls (more than half a million in 2003) were dying every year of complications from pregnancy or childbirth around the world, simply because they did not have access to trained providers and quality services. EMC has invested more than $17 million in grants, public education and raising awareness to improve maternal health outcomes for women around the world. The organization currently funds programs in eight countries.
Sotheby’s is honored to work with Every Mother Counts toward their goal of making pregnancy and childbirth safe, respectful and equitable for every mother, everywhere.
