S otheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Online Sale will be open for bidding online from 7-14 April. Leading the sale is an exuberant floral painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Jeté de fleurs. For Renoir, this subject epitomised the freedom of Impressionism, stating that he was now "at liberty to paint flowers and call them flowers, without their needing to tell a story."
Flowers are also central to Marc Chagall’s œuvre and his work Le bouquet is another star lot of the sale. Executed in vibrant pastels, this drawing is a glorious evocation of life and spring.
Further highlights of the sale include works in the Modern idiom from artists such as Bernard Buffet, Moïse Kisling and Jean-Michel Atlan as well as a wonderful selection of works on paper from artists including Gustav Klimt, Paul Signac, Alfred Kubin and Lyonel Feininger.
We are also delighted to offer an exciting selection of works on paper and ceramics by Pablo Picasso, sold by his granddaughter, Marina.
