S otheby’s Important Design auction is anchored by masterworks spanning over a century. The sale will be led by an important Console au Cerf et au Renard by Diego Giacometti as well as important examples of mid-century European design by Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Jean Royère and Pierre Jeanneret. A dedicated chapter in the sale, Zen by Design: Property from an Important New York Collection, will bring together outstanding examples of French Art Deco furniture, lighting and glass by Armand-Albert Rateau, Diego Giacometti, Albert Cheuret, Eugène Printz, Pierre Chareau and René Lalique, among others, all of which were beautifully assembled by a New York couple with a unique artistic vision. The auction will further include masterworks by Tiffany Studios in a broad survey of works by the celebrated American firm, including leaded glass lighting, fancy goods, and blown favrile glass. Contemporary Design and American Arts and Crafts will also be largely represented through important works by Joseph Walsh, Ingrid Donat, Claude Lalanne, Gustav Stickley, and Greene & Greene.
