S otheby’s Contemporary Curated is honored to be partnering with Ryan Murphy as this season’s curator. A producer, writer, director, and showrunner, Ryan Murphy is known for his distinct and baroque filmmaking. Helming shows and movies such as Glee, Nip/Tuck, American Horror Story, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Pose, The Politician, and Eat, Pray, Love, among countless others. Murphy has helped define a new cinematic style that has rejuvenated television’s anthology format and championed inclusive storytelling. A passionate art collector, Murphy is releasing a documentary series about Andy Warhol on Netflix this March. The Contemporary Curated sale is now open for advance bidding and the exhibition will be on view on the 1st and 3rd floors of Sotheby’s between 4-10 March. The Contemporary Curated Sale is a Live sale on March 11th beginning at 10am EST (Lots 1-88) and 1pm EST (Lots 101-197) that will accept advance, absentee, phone and online bidding.
The March sale features a selection of trailblazing artists who define the postwar period including Joan Mitchell, Wayne Thiebaud, Tom Wesselmann and Hedda Sterne, as well as innovative players on the forefront of contemporary art, including María Berrío, Jonas Wood, Shara Hughes and Cecily Brown.
