otheby’s is pleased to present our inaugural Art of the Americas auction on 18 January 2023. This exciting sale series, taking place during Americana Week at Sotheby’s, will present examples of 19th and early 20th century historical American paintings, drawings and sculpture by prominent artists from John James Audubon to Frederic Remington. The auction will be lead by Property from a Distinguished Canadian Private Collection which includes Asher B. Durand’s masterwork Lake Hamlet (Passing Showers) as well as works by Albert Bierstadt, Alfred Bricher, William Trost Richards and David Johnson. In addition, Sotheby’s will be offering Property from a Distinguished Private Collection presenting important historical paintings by John James Audubon, Jasper Francis Cropsey, Fitz Henry Lane, Robert Salmon and many more. In this auction we are thrilled to be featuring Property From the Estate of Benjamin D. Holt, Jr. and Property from the Philadelphia Montessori Charter School.
