S otheby’s 20th Century Art/Middle East March 2021 is a fresh, tightly curated auction with a focus on quality and stellar provenance. We share stories of the great estates and foundations behind some of our modern giants: Bahman Mohasses, Mohsen Vaziri Moghaddam, Behjat Sadr, Mahmoud Mokhtar, Mahmoud Said and Mahmoud Afifi for example.
We shed light on artists’ individual journeys, along with top quality examples of work from their most coveted periods. We are also thrilled to present beautiful and innovative work from contemporary artists from the region, whose work often embodies local influences through a sophisticated global lens - Reza Derakhshani, Ziad Antar, Shadi Ghadirian, Abdulnasser Gharem and Rokni Haerizadeh.
We are humbled to be working directly with the families, foundations and estates of several important modernists, and appreciate the absolute importance of these institutions in supporting and preserving artistic legacy. We hope to share with you a little more about the significant work each endeavour to carry out and continue.
