This department offers the finest examples of Russian paintings and works of art of the last 400 years. Sotheby’s Important Russian Art Evening sales regularly include masterpieces of 19th century, Impressionist and Modern art, with paintings by artists such as Vasily Vereshchagin, Konstantin Makovsky, Natalia Goncharova, Boris Kustodiev and Mikhail Larionov, amongst others. Our Works of Art sales feature the full spectrum of Russian craftsmanship, including works by Fabergé, silver, bronzes and porcelain, glassware and icons.

Our global team of experts, based in London, New York, Paris and Moscow, nurtures close relationships with collectors in the field and has established Sotheby’s as the leading seller of Russian art worldwide. Over the past ten years, collectors have spent more than $1 billion in Sotheby’s Russian sales. Our experts in both London and New York are regularly entrusted with the most celebrated collections, including such notable examples as the Forbes Collection of Imperial Fabergé, Romanov heirlooms and the Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya Collection. Travelling exhibitions are held in Moscow, Kiev and Paris, bringing important works to the doorsteps of the top collectors in the field.

Major sales of Russian paintings are held in May and November in London. Russian Works of Art sales are held in April in New York, and in May and November in London.
