Description
The reference 16528 was revolutionary in the history of the Daytona. After 25 years of manual winding chronographs, Rolex introduced the new model powered by the Zenith El Primero-based automatic caliber 4030 and a totally new, larger, more modern and robust case design. Not only was this the first automatic Daytona, it was their first ever automatic chronograph.
Over the 12 years of its lifetime, the Zenith Daytona underwent a few changes including five versions or 'marks' of the dial. As is often the case with Rolex, its the small details that make the difference. This example, cased in 18k yellow gold displays to rare and highly desirable details, firstly, the black dial is complimented by diamond set hour markers, and secondly, it features the rare and desirable ‘inverted’ or ‘upside down’ number 6 to the hour register. In addition, the current example, in excellent condition is accompanied by its Rolex presentation box with outer packaging, Official Chronometer Certificate dated April 6, 1992, product literature booklets, polishing cloth and hang tag.
