Description
Introduced in 1959 the 1675 is the second generation of the Rolex GMT-Master. This release replaced the first model reference 6542. Significant changes were made to reference 1675, the most obvious being the introduction of crown guards. There are two crown guard types within the 1675 collection. The pointed crown, often referred to “El Cornino” because it resembles two horns, can be seen in earlier models and until the mid-1960s. Which was then replaced with flat-edged crown guards. The enlargement of the GMT hand to offer better legibility. Fundamental to the GMT-Master; also used in conjunction with the 24-hour bezel. It gives the wearer a second-time zone. Early models had a small arrow-tipped hand. These changes encouraged a more robust watch for daily wear. Rolex introduced variations of dials, hands, and other features, making the 1675 a model that’s diversified. The “Nipple dial” as seen on this 1675 is nicknamed by collectors, the watch is fitted with an unusual dial that has a slight protruding hour marker of precious materials. These dials can usually be found in black, brown or blue.
