Description
Marc Breslin (American, b. 1983).
After receiving degrees in Art History and Literature (Boston College, 2005), Breslin started painting when he was assisting the American conceptual artist Jenny Holzer. Themes of location and time, their loss and rejuvenation, persist in his work, yielding a variety of subjects that conflate the personal and the public. A vast majority of his paintings highlight the use of positive and negative space. He views his practice as an opportunity to create “shared encounters both art historically and personally. I like to think towards our current history in a manner similar to storytelling.” Characters and plot lines find themselves as series of paintings (Power Lines, Swing Sets, Cartoons, Teeth, Birds and Birdhouses, Portraits, Trains, Ladders, Tombs – the list goes on). His subjects examine the subconscious in an almost dreamlike, murky part of our existence.
