Description
Patek Philippe produced the reference 1578 between the years 1943 and 1962. The watch is the time-only counterpart to the famous chronograph reference 1579 and both feature the distinctive and eye-catching ‘spider’ lugs.
Like most mid century Calatrava wristwatches produced by the maison, the reference 1578 was available in both center and sub seconds versions with a plethora of dial variations made for both.
Condition Report
The dial is in very good overall condition with nicely raised hard enamel signature and minute track. Some of the indexes have developed a light patina. The case with minor signs of wear and very minor oxidation. The hallmarks are slightly brushed, suggesting signs of polishing. Otherwise, the watch is in very good overall condition given its age.
The movement is running at the time of cataloging, however, it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.
Please be advised that bands made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator and crocodile) cannot be shipped outside the country of sale. If these watches are purchased outside of Hong Kong, we will remove these bands prior to shipping.
