Description

Blaeu's classic 'carte à figure' map of Asia.

  • Willem Janszoon Blaeu (Dutch).
  • Asia Noviter Delineata.
  • Amsterdam: Johannes Blaeu, circa 1650.
  • Old color.
  • Latin text edition.
  • This work is presented unframed.

One of the most decorative maps of Asia, with nine vignette 'map-views' of cities across the top of the map and ten costumes down the sides. The seas are filled with decoration, including galleons, a twin-spouted sea-monster and a merman blowing a shell trumpet. Korea is shown as an island Australia has yet to appear.
