As anyone who has visited his sculpture-studded property in North Salem knows, Bob Abrams thought about art in three dimensions. The six Abbeville Press titles in this capsule library reflect his lifelong passion for sculpture. They include three artist monographs, on Fernando Botero, Arnaldo Pomodoro, and Alexander Liberman; all are beautiful books, but the Liberman volume is one of the most gorgeous Abbeville ever published, reflecting the exacting eye of its subject, who in addition to being an artist was the legendary editorial director of Conde Nast. Also featured are three surveys: A Landscape for Modern Sculpture, with images of Storm King by the renowned photographer of sculpture David Finn (who also cofounded PR giant Ruder Finn); Earthworks and Beyond, John Beardsley’s seminal study of land art; and Minimalism by Kenneth Baker, longtime art critic of the San Francisco Chronicle (and an aikido master).
