Similar to the perpetual calendar chronograph pieces, the world time watches are iconic models from Patek Philippe with a history spanning over 80 years. The first reference 1415 HU was introduced in 1939 and engineered by Louis Cottier. It was later replaced by the famed double-crown reference 2523, both references being among the most sought-after ones on the market. After a gap of almost 35 years, Patek Philippe reintroduced the world time complication with the reference 5110 in 2000, which was replaced by reference 5130 in 2006 and eventually by the present reference 5230 in 2016. Attractive "winglet" lugs, the lack of crown guards and the flat bezel differentiate the current iteration from its predecessors and arguably make it more attractive, too. Patek Philippe’s World Time reference 5130 was launched in 2006 as a replacement for the reference 5110. Fitted within a sleek and dynamic Calatrava case, 2 mm larger than its predecessor, reference 5130 features a ring-shaped hour hand, inheriting the design of early World Time models. The well-ordered outer ring marks the names of 24 different cities, each representing a different time zone with hours indicated by the inner ring. A simple press on the pusher at 10 o’clock activates the World Time’s spectacular mechanism, promoting the time forward for one hour while shifting the city of reference, allowing the user to change their local time at ease while retaining the ability to track the time from a different zone. Reference 5110 was launched in 2000, heavily inspired by the famous Reference 1415, Patek Philippe's first world time watch launched in the 1930s. The reference 5110 was replaced in 2006 by the reference 5130 and was available in all four case materials: yellow gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum. Includes non Patek Philippe box.

Patek Philippe World Time (Reference 5110P-001). A platinum automatic wristwatch with complications.

Launched in 2008, the Patek Philippe reference 5131 is fitted with a cloisonné enamel dial reminiscent of the vintage world time reference 2523, as well as the 1415. Due to the nature of hand-making each enamel dial, the production of the 5131 is extremely low and has an extensive waiting list. As it is handmade, the process required is very time-consuming, therefore, each dial made is considered unique.
