Sophie Vallance Cantor is a London-based artist who studied painting at Camberwell College of Arts in London. She has exhibited internationally in shows with Guts Gallery (London), T293 (Rome), NBB Gallery (Berlin), Breach (Miami), Everyday Gallery (Antwerp), L21 Gallery (Palma) and Louise Alexander Gallery (Porto Cervo), among others.

Vallance’s practice depicts encounters from her daily life where the real and imagined collide. An invitation to see the world through the artist’s eyes, memories and scenes are often exaggerated—domestic cats become tigers and panthers, and anxieties become real as monsters lying in the shadows. In a wider context, Vallance’s practice acts as an antidote to her experience moving through the world as a neurodivergent person. Her self-portraits are living conversations with one another, yet are evocative of small moments of quiet salvation. The thick impasto of Vallance’s paintings further immortalizes the artist’s enjoyment of the creative process.
