Description
Mickalene Thomas (American, b. 1971).
Informed by the classical genre of the female nude, Thomas blends historical painting with contemporary popular culture. The lounging nude in this piece is a portrait of her mother, Madame Mama Bush, who is featured in several works by Thomas. Her depictions of African American women often explore a spectrum of black female beauty and sexual identity while constructing images of femininity and power. Custom wood frame with black finish and non-glare UV acrylic.
This piece is final sale and not eligible for return.
