Description
The Air Force 1, arguably Nike’s most iconic sneaker, is in many regards, the first of its kind.
Previously realized in running shoes, the introduction of Nike’s "Air" technology in the midsole was a revolutionary concept for basketball sneakers. Tasked with bringing the concept to life, designer Bruce Kilgore and an aerospace engineer brought the project to fruition with a hiking boot-inspired, ankle-strapped high top. Kilgore’s first basketball sneaker, the Air Force 1, was brought to market in 1982.
This multicolored pair of Bespoke Air Force 1 Lows was produced in collaboration with legendary American sports reporter Craig Sager and his SagerStrong Foundation. Sager, who covered NBA games for TNT over a period of 26 years, developed a reputation for wearing colorful and flamboyant suits. The mix of colors and vibrant patterns present on these shoes pays tribute to Sager’s famous fashion style. In addition, the left tongue tag features the text “SAGER STRONG.”
After being diagnosed with leukemia in 2014, Sager and his wife, Stacy, started the SagerStrong Foundation, which provides funding for blood cancer research. Though Sager passed away in 2016, his inspiring legacy lives on.
