A superb association between physician and author Oliver Sacks (1933–2015) and his friend and editor Robert Silvers.

Oliver Sacks first appeared in the pages of the New York Review when W.H Auden reviewed the first edition of this book (“The Megrims”, 3 June 1971). Silvers and Sacks soon initiated a long correspondence, and Sacks was a steady contributor to the Review, contributing some thirty essays from the early 1980s until his death. Sacks readily acknowledged how important Silvers’ encouragement and editing was to Sacks’ development as a writer.
