Former Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé collection

The snake is a recurring theme in Edgar Brandt's work. A powerful symbol in mythology and iconography, it represents wisdom and temptation, but also a tribute to nature and its complexity. Brandt handles this motif to perfection, combining fluidity and elegance of movement in his creations and offering stylized serpentine shapes in wrought6iron or gilt bronze. Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé enjoyed collecting snake-patterned objects, such as Edgar Brandt's pair of andirons and Cobras floor lamp in their Paris apartment on Rue de Babylone. Saint-Laurent also drew inspiration from this animal motif in his designs. One of the most emblematic examples is his 1971 autumn-winter collection, which unveiled a series of garments and accessories inspired by this animal.
