Description
Old McBrayer 17 Year Old Bourbon 100 Proof 1917
Distilled in the Spring of 1917, bottled in the Fall of 1934, Illionis tax stamp adhered to shoulder and front of the bottle, front label slightly peeling towards the bottom right, original carton damaged near the middle opening
The McBrayer name has been a fixture in Kentucky since 1844, when W.H. McBrayer opened his eponymous distillery on the banks of Cedar Creek, east of Louisville. Among his most popular labels was Old McBrayer, which later passed through several owners before landing in the hands of the American Medicinal Spirits Co., which had a license to sell whiskey, with a doctor’s prescription, during Prohibition. This bottle, released in 1934 – less than two years after the end of Prohibition – carries an astounding 17-year age statement, and therefore was distilled in 1917 or before. Like the bottle of Kentucky Tavern in this same collection, it was distilled and aged at the Glenmore distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky. Both bottles contain exceptional whiskey made according to pre-Prohibition methods, and both stand as artifacts to a long-lost era of whiskey history.
