Description
Gold Seal 100 Proof 1917Gold Seal 100 Proof 1917
Distilled in the Fall of 1917, bottled in the Fall of 1930, ullage: low shoulder, Missouri tax stamp adhered to shoulder, front label and back label very lightly worn, original carton slightly worn and damaged
The Gold Seal brand was created under Prohibition as a catchall label for whiskey owned by the Security Warehouse and Investment Co., based in St. Louis. The company, which had a license to sell whiskey for medicinal purposes, bought up stocks from a wide variety of distilleries – in this case from the Elk Run Distillery in eastern Louisville, then bottled them under the catchall Gold Seal brand. Note that the label only says “whiskey,” not “bourbon” or “rye,” likely a reflection of the variety of mash bills under the company’s control.
This bottle is significantly ullaged, which is not unusual for bottles of this age. Please refer to images for levels and conditions
1 pint (original carton)
