Alessandro Cesati, Milan;

From whom acquired by Aso O. Tavitian at TEFAF Maastricht, 15 March 2013.

The present sculpture has taken the form of a lion sejant erect. He is shown baring his teeth, while his forepaws rest on a shield, adorned with heraldic imagery. The arms on the shield are those of Stierken of Holland, impalling those of Crabeels of Brabant and Holland, and with those of Van Aertrycke of Bruges.
