Description
Rawlings, Mesh Jersey, Size 46
Sotheby’s is proud to present this Charles Oakley jersey from his 1985 Rookie season. The jersey was likely issued to Dave Greenwood during the 1983-1984 season and repurposed for Charles Oakley’s 1985-1986 Preseason and Rookie season.
After being drafted 9th overall in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Charles Oakley was traded to the Chicago Bulls. In his rookie season, Oakley averaged 13.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, quickly establishing himself as a dominant force on the glass and a key contributor for the Bulls, alongside the emerging star, Michael Jordan. Oakley was selected to the 1986 NBA All-Rookie First Team.
After his time in Chicago, Oakley was traded to the New York Knicks in 1988, where he helped the team reach the NBA Finals in 1994. His rebounding and defense were consistently among the best in the league, and he finished his career in 2004 with averages of 9.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
Sotheby’s obtained the below letter of provenance from the consignor, detailing how the jersey was acquired.
The jersey is from Karen Stack, who was executive assistant to Jerry Krause from 1985-2003.
The jersey was given to her by Jerry Krause, General Manager of the Chicago Bulls, after they moved to the Berto Center in 1991.
I hope this jersey enhances your collection.
