This elegant Venetian scene depicts the church of Santa Lucia, at left—since demolished and where the city's train station is now location—and the convent and church of the Scalzi farther down the Grand Canal. The Master of the Langmatt Foundation Views, so named after a group of seven paintings in the Langmatt Foundation, Zurich, is often identified as Apollonio Domenichini. As is characteristic, the painter pays particular attention to capturing different materials, be they stone, stucco, or water. He also renders the scene from a low vantage, which differentiates the panorama from Canaletto's depictions of similar views.
