A few years after Rolex revamped their chronograph offering with the now famed 6239, the brand decided to launch a sister pump pusher reference fitted with black acrylic bezel to be offered alongside the existing Daytona fitted with a stainless steel bezel. Not only did the acrylic bezel offer buyers more variety, it also made the watch seem larger in diameter, even though the same watch case was used.
Though these watches were not immediately embraced by the community, both the 6239 and present 6241 have since become icons of vintage Rolex, especially when fitted with “exotic”, or “Paul Newman” dials, made famous by the film and racing legend. The present watch is a reference 6241 with black Paul Newman dial, meaning that it features the classic “black on black” configuration and making it one of the most attractive configurations, treasured by collectors.
Offered in attractive condition, the present Paul Newman Daytona is sure to excite any watch aficionado. Collectors are sure to appreciate the cleanliness of the sub-dials and outer track, along with the case which is nicely proportioned. In the world of vintage, the 6241 Paul Newman will never be dethroned as a true icon.
