A wakizashi with fine yanone koshirae [sword mount with arrowhead motif decoration]
Signed Oshu Aizu ju Kaneyoshi (Kaneyoshi, a resident of Aizu in Mutsu Province)
Edo period, dated Kyowa ninen nigatsu hi (a day in the 2nd month 1802)
Sugata [configuration]: shinogi-zukuri, iori mune, shallow curvature, chu-kissaki
Kitae [forging pattern]: possibly masame hada
Hamon [tempering pattern]: suguha with narrow nioiguchi
Boshi [tip]: ko-maru boshi with short turnback
Horimono [carvings]: the omote with archaic dragon and suken
Habaki [collar]: single clad, copper
Nakago [tang]: ubu, iriyamagata, two mekugi-ana
In shirasaya [plain wood scabbard]
Koshirae [mount]: the fine saya of slightly undulating form, decorated in gold, silver, red and black hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, keuchi and sabiji depicting iron arrow heads, the lacquer imitating the russet iron surfaces, all on a trailing red and black lacquer ground, iron sukashi tsuba pierced with arrow fletching, wave and cloud design, the gilt and silvered menuki in the form of further arrowheads, shakudo and gilt fuchi-kashira depicting further arrowheads
