Edo period, Tenmei gonen hachigatsu hi (a day in the 8th month 1785)
Sugata [configuration]: shinogi-zukuri, iori mune, shallow tori-zori, chu-kissaki
Kitae [forging pattern]: densely packed itame with mokume in places
Hamon [tempering pattern]: o-choji midare, wide and bright nioi-guchi, ashi, some tobiyaki, in ji-nie
Boshi [tip]: rounded maru-boshi with turnback
Habaki [collar]: single clad, gold on copper, carved, chased and engraved
Nakago [tang]: ubu, ha-agari kurijiri, kessho yasurime, one mekugi-ana
In shirasaya [plain wood scabbard]
Koshirae [mount]: the saya [scabbard] applied overall in alternating bands of black lacquer, decorated in gold hiramaki-e with tomoe mon of various form, the shakudo and gilt fittings carved in relief with crashing waves, gilt spray details, the menuki in the form of further tomoe mon before waves, the iron tsuba with gilt rim carved with stylised chrysanthemums

Saki-haba [width at the yokote]: 2.1 cm., ¾ in.
Moto-haba [width at the machi]: 3.2 cm., 1¼ in.
Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Hozon Token [Sword Especially Worthy of Preservation], no. 140686 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword], dated Heisei 7 (1995).

Suishinshi Masahide (died in 1826) was the founder of the shinshinto tradition. He was in instrumental in the revival of ancient styles, publishing his research in works such as the Token jitsuyo ron [Practical Sword Dissertation].
