The case designed as a panther head set with brilliant-cut diamonds, onyx and tourmalines, sliding to reveal a silvered dial with Roman numerals and blued steel hands, to a black satin bracelet and gold folding clasp, quartz movement, signed, numbered, Swiss and International assay marks for 18 carat gold, maker's mark for Cartier, gross weight 72.09 grams, case stamped Cartier.
The panther is, together with the red colour, the symbol of Cartier. Powerful and elegant, it was the favourite animal of Jeanne Toussaint and it symbolizes the charisma of the creations of the Maison. Only a very few timepieces have integrated the image of the panther to such an extend and in such a graceful way than the Panthère Secrète. The silvered dial is concealed by a yellow gold case decorated with diamonds, onyx and tourmaline resembling the face of the animal. The dial is revealed by pushing the surface of the panther upwards. This ingenious design allows the wearer to use the piece as a wristwatch as well as a high jewellery piece.
The Cartier Panthère Secrète instantly received a well-deserved recognition from prominent figures of the watchmaking world and was awarded the best 'Jewellery Watch Price' at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Asia Edition in 2009. Considered as a Haute Joaillerie piece, the model was produced in low quantities during a few years only and is no longer part of the collection. The present example, preserved in very attractive condition and presented with its Cartier presentation case, is a rare and wonderful opportunity to acquire an exclusive piece from the celebrated Maison Cartier.
