Bust of a Saint

polychromed wood, on a velvet covered wood base

sculpture: 43 by 40cm., 17 by 15¾in.

Roberto Valeriani, La Casa di Sandra Caracciolo, Roma, 2012, p.86.

Probably cut down from a full figure, the present bust is stylistically reminiscent of works by the 14th-century Sienese architect and sculptor Agostino di Giovanni; see R. Bartalini, Scultura gotica in Toscana: Maestri, monumenti, cantieri del Due e Trecento, Siena, 2005, pp. 216-221.
