A consummate example of his artistic output from early on in his career, the present work is a testament to Johan Laurentz Jensen’s mastery of the still life genre. Set against a dark bare background, Jensen’s overflowing urn commands the viewer's attention, filling the span of the canvas with an abundance of dahlias, cherries, gooseberries, peaches, roses, a pineapple, and more so vibrant they appear to glow. Subtle instances of chiaroscuro towards the mouth of the urn enhance the composition's visual allure.
