Description

the hilt applied on one side with winged horses, centaurs and cupids, with the muse Clio and a rooster and the muse Erato with a lyre, on the reverse with scrolling folliage on an amati background, the handle in green and gold enamel with geometric motives, the figure of Hercules and a muse, the pommel applied with figures of Athena and Alexander, with a white shagreen scabbard with a grip ring, signed ‘Manufre à Versailles entrep se Boutet’; with a red leather case with green velvet interior; (blade blocked in the scabbard)

Gift from Louis-Alexandre Berthier, Prince of Neuchâtel and Valangin, Prince of Wagram (1753-1815) to his father-in-law Duke Wilhem in Bavaria (1752-1837), cousin of King Maximilian I of Bavaria;
