9 1/4-inch enamel dial with concentric rings for date, month, minutes and hours, finely pierced and engraved gilt hours and minutes hands, blued steel hands for the calendar, equation of time and centre seconds, signed J S Bourdier and also signed below VI Coteau, the bezel inset with twelve finely painted enamel plaques representing the signs of the zodiac, the two train movement with weight-driven going train, dead beat escapement and separately suspended nine-rod compensation pendulum with enamel temperature scale, the striking train with massive spring barrel and external count wheel cut for twenty-four hours striking the hours and half hours on a single bell, the trunk door inset with a further finely enamelled dial displaying the phases of the moon and indicating the lunar and terrestrial date, inscribed to the centre Phases de la Lune & Quantieme du Mois and signed Coteau, the case surmounted by Saturn reclining on billowing clouds with an hourglass and a scythe above finely cast and chased mounts in the manner of the Caffieri; (some gilt-bronze ornaments added later)
