The Rolex "Batman" earned its nickname thanks to the black and blue color scheme on its Cerachrom bezel, reminiscent of the iconic colors associated with the comic book superhero. Cerachrom, a proprietary technology developed by Rolex, creates a bezel that is not only vibrantly colored but also virtually scratch-proof and resistant to UV rays. Rolex had been using Cerachrom for nearly a decade before the Batman was released, but always on a monochromatic bezel. The Batman was the first Rolex to showcase a two-tone Cerachrom bezel—an impressive breakthrough, given the complexities of working with this challenging material.

In 2019, six years after its debut, the Rolex Batman received its first major update with the release of the Rolex 126710. While several enhancements were made inside and out, the most notable change was the shift from an Oyster bracelet to a Jubilee bracelet, giving the fan-favorite GMT-Master II a more refined look. However, the classic Oyster bracelet continued to have its loyalists. To accommodate them, Rolex reintroduced the Oyster bracelet option in 2021 with the GMT-Master II 126710BLNR, like the example offered here.
