Description

painted, possibly by Christian Friedrich Herold, with Kauffahrtei scenes of figures at various pursuits at the waters edge, as well as barges and boats on the water, within gilt-edged shaped quatrefoil cartouches issuing purple scrollwork, with scroll handles and dragon-form finials, the stands painted with branches of flowers, gilt-rims, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, gilt numeral 6. to all pieces

Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
