A similar clock case from the collection of Giuseppe Rossi was sold at Sotheby's London, 10 March, 1999, lot 494; and another, with a stand, from the collection of Frederick J. and Antoinette H. Van Slyke was sold at Sotheby's New York, 26 September, 1989, lot 99.
Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
